The Mercedes G-Wagon now has an extraordinary partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Moncler, fusing the worlds of engines and puffers.
It continued both brands’ collaborative approach, which pushes the frontiers of creativity and crosses unlikely industries, and was unveiled earlier this week at Moncler’s “The Art of Genius” exhibition during London Fashion Week. Virgil Abloh, a highly regarded fashion designer, and Mercedes-Benz previously collaborated on Project Maybach. Collaborations are a key component of Moncler’s Genius label’s success.
The Project Mondo G designation refers to this specific redesign of the G-Class. The heavy-duty wagon features high-gloss reflective surfaces that are shaped like Moncler puffers, highlighting a portion of the roof of the car and the wheels. The item itself took more than a year to create. On the back of the vehicle, a sizable zipper feature with Moncler branding is visible. Project Mondo G is 2.5 tons in total weight.
Gorden Wagener, chief design officer of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, claimed that the piece of art displays “the robust geometry of the G-Class mixed with the organic forms of Moncler puffer coats.”

“It’s not something you would think from the automobile business, so we wanted to push things to a different level,” said Britta Seeger, a member of Mercedes- executive Benz’s board. It goes well beyond a sponsoring engagement. Seeger acknowledges that working with other designers enables the business to think creatively and connect with customers outside of the automobile industry.
Mercedes has had a number of relationships in the past, including international fashion weeks for the previous 28 years. The automaker intends to keep working with Madrid, Tbilisi, Mexico, and Prague to promote fashion in 2023.
