Even though the House has formally welcomed Sabato De Sarno as its new creative director, Gucci’s design team took the reins on this one before his debut in September. Gucci recently debuted its Fall/Winter 2023 collection during Milan Fashion Week. The second collection following Alessandro Michele’s departure, the release was a dystopian ode to the brand’s future plans.
Gucci welcomed its audience into its local Milan headquarters, which was carpeted in its recognizable green tone. There were working elevators all around the circular arena that served as runway models’ entrances. Once the concert started and the lights started to malfunction, they moved quickly across the area.

The Gucci design team used the FW23 runway show as a time for introspection while also looking ahead to the start of a new era for the Italian brand. Historical references from previous Gucci collections were evoked throughout the collection, seen through a contemporary lens that represents the creative process of the crew. The first outfit to take the stage was bare-shouldered and featured simply a silk maxi skirt, a leather glove with a frosted tip, and a bejeweled bralette with the interlocking Gucci logo.
Faux fur ensembles were a seasonal focus point and arrived in discolored purple, blue, green, and pink tones. Loose suiting designed for future warriors was worn with ripped pants and tinted visor sunglasses. Along with casual trench coats, stripped shirting, and baggy pants, raindrop-shaped ornaments adorned formal wear with diamond embellishment that shone brightly beneath the lighting. Jumbo-sized shoulder stuffing raised ceremonial clothing to new heights, while silver jackets with fringes swung back and forth toward the dance floor.
